5 Excel Wrestlers Make it to the Finals in Iowa   02/19/2011   Tonight at Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines, IA, five Excel wrestlers advanced to the finals in three different classes of Iowa High School State wrestling tournament.  The biggest upset of the night came from 135lber Tyler Patten of Webster City in 2A action when he came from behind with a reversal and back points to win over Matt White of Albia, 9 – 5.  Patten is a senior at Webster City High School and is a returning state finalist.   Two other Excel teammates from Interstate 35 high school in Truro also made the finals.  Congratulations to Jordan Johnson at 130lbs and Dallas Houchins at 152lbs.  They are also both seniors at Interstate 35 High School.   And probably the most interesting matchup in the Iowa 3A competition comes at 112lbs where two Excel wrestlers will battle each other for the state championship.  Senior Jake Agnitsch and Sophomore Colby Knight will faceoff tomorrow evening.  Both have trained together in the Iowa Excel Program as well as competed against one another this season.  Agnitsch and Knight have split victories this year, with Knight winning the most recent match in the semifinals at the CIML Conference tournament and Agnitsch winning a semifinal bout two weeks early at the Urbandale Ed Winger Invitational.  Knight is also a returning state finalist from last year.   Congratulations to all five Excel wrestlers and we wish you the best in the finals.  Eight other Excel wrestlers placed in this year’s state championship after Excel qualified 25 wrestlers for the state tournament.
